Frequently Asked Questions

- Is there any scientific proof of reincarnation?
Many highly-qualified scientists have undertaken reincarnation research. Professor Erlendur Haraldsson of the University of Iceland has done much valuable work in this area. Possibly the most outstanding scientific researcher and certainly the most widely-known, is the late Dr. Ian Stevenson, of the University of Virginia. He documented over 2500 verified cases in research conducted in accord with the strictest scientific protocol. His earlier research into the stories of children who actually remembered details of prior incarnations was followed by studies of numerous people born with physical signs of unique traumas suffered in an immediately prior incarnation.
Although with commendable scientific caution, Dr. Stevenson usually wrote publicly of cases “suggestive of” reincarnation, he is also recorded to have said, “Why do mainstream scientists refuse to accept the evidence we have for reincarnation?”
- Why should anyone be interested in remembering other lives? Are there any benefits?
Research into other incarnations, in addition to satisfying one’s personal curiosity, inevitably leads to growing awareness of the ephemerality of conditioned existence. Little by little, there is a wearing away of the current ego and a concomitant expansion of consciousness. The ultimate objective of this card-cum-book set is to enable the user directly to perceive that all is One within the true Self. Were a sufficient number of “individuals” to realize this, there would be an end to wars and civil strife, as it would be clearly seen that to hurt the “other” is only to hurt oneself.
On a more mundane level, many phobias and physical and emotional illnesses in the current emanated personality have their origin in so-called prior incarnations. These can often be reduced or even completely eliminated once their cause and nature have been recalled and recognized.
- Are there any disadvantages to remembering other lives?
It is always possible that the user might have been drawn to this set originally for egoistical reasons, in the naive belief that he or she was this or that famous (or infamous!) historical individual. If research stops with such identification, one could be left immured in any number of false beliefs about oneself. This might be a potential danger for oneself and/or for others.
Continuous research with the cards and study of the book “Awakening Far Memory”, however, will eventually dispel all such delusions, as the process of the wearing away of the ego proceeds.
In the end, it will be found that in a greater, transcendental sense, one actually is incarnate in those famous or infamous people, since in the Eternal Now, the One Self of the universe, one’s true identity, is simultaneously incarnate in all “things” in all “places” at all “times”, past, present and future.
- What do you advise someone who might be afraid of remembering past lives?
Fear is a feature of the normally insane human condition. It is based on the irrational delusion that one is a totally independent individual, forever separate and apart from everything and everyone else. One then deems “others” to be hostile and therefore to be feared. There is nothing to fear here. This set is a research tool designed to do two things: to recover memories of experiences that have been forgotten in the same way as have one’s birth and early childhood experiences; and, ultimately, to lead the user through a controlled, gradual expansion of consciousness to a final, totally sane realization of his or her essential oneness with the universe.
- There are over 6 billion people alive today, more than at any time in known history. How is it possible for them all to have been reincarnated many times?
The implied question really is, “What is an incarnation?” Each so-called incarnation is a Self-created egoic mind projected into an apparent life experience in a creatively imagined environment. This egoic mind has a perceived individuality in an apparent sequence from life to life. These psychically-linked projections or emanations are not, however, its real identity, which is the underlying all-embracing consciousness in which all manifestations, including itself, arise.
The One Cosmic Self appears to manifest in the form of a virtually infinite number of only apparently separate egoic minds. This means that, in essence, every so-called individual is actually incarnate in all “things” and “creatures” at all “places” and “times”, past, present and future (as “time” is seen from the “individual’s” point of view), while forever remaining the One Self in which all of these phenomena seem to arise, to be sustained for a time, and to dissolve. Hence the Lankavatara Sutra can declare, “But if only they knew, they are already in Nirvana, for in Noble Wisdom, all things are in Nirvana from the beginning.”
- Do the 6 billion humans have an individual space-time universe, which may or may not be the same universe as the next person? Or is it one common universe which we share and which is created by a Universal Mind?
The implied question really is, “What is the universe?”
The universe is alive, conscious, mental, timeless and One Infinite Being.
A most important principle for the “individual” to grasp is that consciousness is not an epiphenomenon – a chemical something that one generates in the brain. Consciousness is primal and ubiquitous. Accordingly, humankind did not “evolve” consciousness. In a sense, consciousness may be said to have “evolved” humankind – and everything else. Everything that one perceives (including the body and the personality) appears to arise, to be maintained and to dissolve in birthless and deathless consciousness; a universal self-awareness that masquerades as the limited, time-bound, space-fettered individual person one normally, but erroneously, believes oneself to be.
- Why do you think there is such a mushrooming interest in reincarnation research?
Polls show that, even before the current surge in interest, about 25% of Americans believed in some form of reincarnation. More and more people intuitively recognize the truth of reincarnation, an intuition that has been reinforced by the research and writings of eminent scientists like Dr. Ian Stevenson and Professor Erlendur Haraldsson, supplemented by the work of psychiatrists like Dr. Brian Weiss, among many, many other highly qualified professionals. There has also, for a number of years, been a progressive expansion of consciousness among the human population as a whole. This has led to a great and growing interest in paranormal subjects that were at one time considered to be disreputable and the playground of charlatans and fakers. Unfortunately, they are still with us – as can readily be seen in the plethora of “spiritual” messages and gimmicks promoted in the “New Age” literature, much of which is of at least questionable value.
